Who is Chase Infiniti? Leo DiCaprio calls her ‘the heart’ of ‘One Battle After Another’
Chase Infiniti makes her film debut in “One Battle After Another” with Leonardo DiCaprio.
Infiniti’s name was inspired by characters in “Toy Story” and “Batman Forever.”
She also appeared in the AppleTV+ series “Presumed Innocent” with Jake Gyllenhaal.
The movie world is meeting Chase Infiniti in “One Battle After Another.”
Director Paul Thomas Anderson’s satirical thriller (now in theaters) showcases Infiniti, 26, in the actresses’ film debut as Willa Ferguson, the high school-aged daughter of fugitive ex-revolutionary Bob Ferguson (Leonardo DiCaprio).
Even sharing the screen with superstar veterans like DiCaprio, Benecio del Toro (Willa’s local karate instructor), Regina Hall (revolutionary Deandra) and Sean Penn (obsessed military pursuant Col. Steven J. Lockjaw), Infiniti shines through in a power performance.
“We met and auditioned a lot of girls for the part,” says DiCaprio. “But Chase really captured the innocence and the ferocity of a daughter of a revolutionary. She’s really the heart and soul of the movie.”
Here’s what to know about Infiniti and beyond:
Yes, Chase Infiniti was named after Buzz Lightyear and this famous ‘Batman’ movie character
Born Chase Infiniti Payne to movie-loving parents in Indianapolis, Indiana, Infiniti uses her middle name as her surname. In a sign of true movie devotion, Infiniti was named after “Toy Story” astronaut Buzz Lightyear, whose inspirational catchphrase is “To infinity… and beyond,” and Nicole Kidman’s Dr. Chase Meridian from 1995’s “Batman Forever.”
“I remember my parents telling me about my name. They were like, ‘Those two movies really were distinctive in our brains,'” says Infiniti. “And they thought that Chase was such a cool name for a girl. And I haven’t met many people named Chase who are not a guy. But they really do love movies.”
You might know Infiniti from ‘Presumed Innocent’
Playing the daughter of famous stars is Infiniti’s jam. The actress made a memorable TV streaming debut as Jaden Sabich, the daughter of Rusty (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Barbara Sabich (Ruth Negga) in the AppleTV+ thriller series “Presumed Innocent.” Yes, it’s all coming back to you now.

Anderson hadn’t seen the critically acclaimed series, with its surprise ending, when he cast Infiniti. The actress was still shooting the TV series when she sent in her audition – a solo rendition of what would became Willa’s first scene with her father (DiCaprio).
“When I auditioned for the movie, I was barely a month into ‘Presumed Innocent,'” she says. “So I’m grateful to Paul, because he literally hired me long before the show came out.”
Infiniti’s first day of ‘One Battle’ was a scene with DiCaprio
Acting to tape is hard. But acting out her audition scene on her first day on the “One Battle” set with superstar DiCaprio was an entirely new level. “I remember being very nervous that day,” Infiniti says. It doesn’t show.
When “One Battle” opens, 16-year-old Willa has spent most of her life in hiding with just her father Bob – without her mother, the revolutionary Perfidia (Teyana Taylor), who had been arrested when she was a baby. In the father-daughter opening scene, Willa rebukes her loving, but paranoid stoner father for his lifestyle.
“I mean its director Paul Thomas Anderson and Leonardo DiCaprio, those are two names I will never take lightly,” says Infiniti. “There were jitters. I wanted to make sure I was holding my own in those scenes.”
Infiniti brought her own martial arts action that impressed del Toro
Infiniti already had moves working as kickboxing fitness instructor while taking a performance course at Columbia College Chicago.
Showing Willa as a capable fighter was vital for Anderson, who had Infiniti show off her skills during in-person auditions. After accepting the role, she enhanced her skills with an intensive karate training course.
“Paul was there, and Benicio actually came by just to see how I was picking everything up,” says Infiniti.
When it came time for shooting scenes together, del Toro was impressed with her confident acting and kicking.
“I knew it was her first movie, but amazingly, it didn’t feel like it,” he says. “I never saw a rookie.”
Infiniti sees revolutionary ‘One Battle’ as a ‘great call to action’
Playing Willa, who walks tall despite her parents’ inability to change the world, Infiniti says she’s representing a new generation trying to make right in the world.
“I always feel charged every time I see it, the movie is a great call to action,” says Infiniti. “I hope action inspires conversation, whether it’s generations above me or those that will come after.”
